Stop the Slaughter of Animals for Fashion‏

    Dear Stephane,

Won't you please help us stop the slaughter of rabbits—now all the rage at Armani—and other animals who are abused and killed for fashion?

Fashion Week in New York City has just wrapped up, and although we have knocked fur out of many shows, a fair number of big designers are still desperate and callous enough to include fur in their collections. By trying to keep fur in vogue, they are ensuring a cruel death—in traps and by painful electrocution—for so many beautiful, precious animals.

The fashion industry is responsible for the torture and death of millions of dogs, cats, minks, raccoons, foxes, and other animals each year. This business has gone on for far too long, and only caring people like you can stop it.

Every time we succeed in convincing a designer to stop using fur, it is because supporters like you have provided us with the resources to expose cruelty to animals and pursue our campaign. Your support enables us to do the following:

    • Go undercover to shoot photos and videos that document the suffering of animals.
    • Fly to designers' headquarters, sometimes overseas, to conduct talks with them and their buyers.
    • Demonstrate in creative ways at major fashion shows.
    • Make sure that the animals' side of the story appears in the media in order to deter potential fur buyers.

That's why leading designers like Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, and Calvin Klein are now all completely fur-free. And retailers like J.Crew, J. Jill, and Forever 21 will not sell the ugly stuff.

? This is a trend you can set.

We are working especially hard to convince Armani to make all his collections fur-free.

Although Armani recently stated, "I spoke with the people from PETA, and they showed me some materials that convinced me not to use fur," his upcoming collections are chock-full of fur. Please help us by providing us with the resources we need to aggressively target his collection in the stores—and in the hearts and minds of consumers—until he realizes he must stop using fur in any form.

As I'm sure you understand, fashion designers set trends that are adopted by all retail clothing manufacturers. So if a major industry leader like Armani goes fur-free, clothing in all stores across the U.S. will be far less likely to feature fur from tortured animals.

As we've always said, there's absolutely no excuse for using, buying, selling, or wearing fur.
Thank you for going fur-free and for everything you do for animals.

    Sincerely,

    Ingrid E. Newkirk
    President

P.S. For so many animals who are slaughtered for their fur, you are the only hope. Please help us make the use of fur in fashion a relic of the past.
